PLC I/O Board – HEIDENHAIN PL 300

The PL 300 is a PLC input/output expansion board (“PLC I/O Board”) manufactured by HEIDENHAIN, documented as an expansion module for HEIDENHAIN TNC series CNC control systems (e.g. TNC 360, TNC 415, TNC 425). It manages the interface between the CNC control unit and the machine tool’s peripheral devices: limit switches, sensors, solenoid valves, and actuators. It is not a CPU or a drive, but a dedicated PLC I/O expansion module.

The PLC I/O board is the digital bridge between the CNC control and the machine: it acquires input signals from limit switches, pushbuttons, and process sensors, and generates output commands for solenoid valves, relays, lubrication systems, and automatic tool changers. A failure of this module causes partial or total loss of control over machine peripherals, resulting in immediate production downtime and inability to safely execute automatic machining cycles.
