The OPUS 5000 GLP is an electronic power supply unit for CNC control (“CNC Power Supply Unit”) manufactured by OKUMA, a component of the OPUS 5000 control cabinet. It provides the regulated DC voltages required for the operation of all electronic modules in the control system: logic boards, I/O interfaces, interpolation cards and memory units. The designation GLP identifies the specific configuration of this power supply within the OPUS 5000 family. The OPUS 5000 system was installed on a wide range of OKUMA vertical and horizontal machining centres and CNC lathes from the 1980s and 1990s.
The power supply is the component that converts mains voltage into stabilised and filtered DC voltages, essential for the correct operation of all machine control electronics. A power supply failure causes an immediate and complete shutdown of the CNC control: the machine is rendered unusable until the module is replaced or repaired, resulting in unplanned production downtime and the inability to execute any machining cycle.
