Brushless Servo Drive – OKUMA BL-D75A

The BL-D75A is a brushless servo drive amplifier (“Brushless Servo Drive Amplifier”) manufactured by OKUMA, designed to control CNC axis servo motors on machining centres, lathes and milling machines equipped with OKUMA’s OSP (OKUMA Servo Protocol) control systems. The module manages the current and speed regulation loops of the associated brushless servo motor, receiving position and speed references from the CNC and driving the motor via PWM modulation. The prefix BL-D identifies OKUMA’s “Brushless Drive” family; the suffix 75A designates the current rating or version of the module within the series.

The BL-D75A servo drive is the electronic module that translates CNC position and speed commands into drive currents for the brushless axis servo motor: it closes the current, speed and position control loops, ensuring the geometric accuracy and dynamic response required during machining. If the unit fails, the controlled axis is locked or in alarm, making any cutting operation impossible; the entire machine is down until the module is replaced or repaired.

OKUMA Corporation is a Japanese CNC machine tool manufacturer founded in 1898 in Nagoya, Japan, and one of the few companies in the world to develop both the machine tools and the CNC control systems (the OSP – OKUMA Servo Protocol series) entirely in-house. This vertical integration provides optimised firmware and advanced proprietary diagnostics, but makes the drive components machine-specific and non-interchangeable with hardware from other manufacturers. Modules in the BL-D series are legacy / discontinued: available only as used, surplus, or through specialist repair.
