14” Colour Industrial CNC Monitor – Hitachi CD1472D1M

The CD1472D1M is a 14” industrial colour CRT monitor (“14-inch Colour CRT Monitor”) manufactured by Hitachi, used as the operator display unit in CNC machine tools from the 1980s through to the early 2000s. It employs colour CRT (cathode ray tube) technology with analogue RGB or TTL RGB video input depending on the variant. The suffix “D1M” identifies the variant with connector type and sync parameters optimised for integration with the numerical control systems of the period. It was adopted as a qualified standard by numerous CNC machine tool OEMs — including machining centres and CNC lathes equipped with Fanuc, Mitsubishi and Mazak controls — that sourced Hitachi monitors as a preferred supplier.

The monitor is the primary visual interface between the operator and the numerical control unit: it displays NC programs, axis positions, alarm messages and configuration menus in real time. A monitor failure — blank screen, distorted geometry, colour loss, horizontal lines or an unstable image — makes it impossible to read any machine parameter and effectively halts production: without visibility of the CNC panel the operator cannot start machining cycles, apply tool offsets or acknowledge alarms.

Hitachi is a Japanese industrial conglomerate founded in 1910, historically active in industrial electronics, professional displays and factory automation. Hitachi CRT monitors for CNC were widely adopted by Japanese and European OEMs throughout the 1980s and 1990s, valued for their proven reliability and long service life. All CRT products in this family are legacy / discontinued: no longer available new and obtainable only as used, surplus or through specialist repair services.
