Single-Axis Servo Drive – Mitsubishi MDS-B-V1-45

The MDS-B-V1-45 is a single-axis AC servo amplifier (“Single-Axis AC Servo Amplifier”) from the MDS-B series by Mitsubishi Electric, designed for MELDAS CNC systems (600/700 series). It receives commands from the CNC controller via the proprietary SSCNET fiber-optic serial network and drives the AC servo motor of the interpolated axis. The “V1” designation indicates a single-axis drive; “45” denotes the rated output current (45 A). An external MDS-B-CV power supply unit is required for the DC bus voltage. Compatible with Mitsubishi HC-SF and HA-LF servo motors.

The servo drive is the core of each CNC axis: it receives position and speed references from the control unit and converts them into motor drive current, closing the position, speed, and current loops in real time. A fault in the MDS-B-V1-45 causes immediate axis shutdown with a CNC alarm; the machine cannot perform any machining operation until the drive is replaced or repaired.

Mitsubishi Electric is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of CNC systems and motion control, with the MELDAS/MELSERVO product line active since the late 1970s. The MDS-B series was produced from the late 1990s to the early 2000s and is now considered legacy / discontinued, superseded by the MDS-C1, MDS-D, and MDS-E series; sourcing is possible only through used-parts channels, surplus stock, or specialist repair services.
