Dual-Axis Servo Drive – MITSUBISHI MDS-B-V2-1010

The MDS-B-V2-1010 is a dual-axis servo drive unit (“Dual-Axis Servo Drive Unit”) from the MDS-B series manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric. It is documented as a component of CNC systems with Mitsubishi M64, M65, M640, M650 controllers and other systems compatible with the SSCNET bus. It provides full digital control of torque, speed and position for two servo motor axes simultaneously, operating in conjunction with the MDS-B-CV converter unit which supplies the shared DC bus. The V2 suffix designates the two-axis configuration; the code 1010 indicates a rated current of 10 A per axis.

The dual-axis servo drive is the core of the machine’s axis control: it receives position references from the CNC via SSCNET, closes the current, speed and position loops on each motor, and ensures the synchronisation required for accurate interpolation. A failure of the MDS-B-V2-1010 renders both controlled axes inoperative, completely halting machining and triggering position or overcurrent alarms on the operator panel.
