Spindle Drive Amplifier CNC – MITSUBISHI MDS-C1-V1-70

The MDS-C1-V1-70 is a spindle drive amplifier (“Spindle Drive Amplifier”) from the MDS-C1 series by Mitsubishi Electric, designed for MELDAS CNC systems (M60, M64, M65, M68, M700). The unit controls the AC spindle motor in speed and torque, receiving references from the CNC via the proprietary MDS serial bus. The designation V1 identifies the vector-controlled spindle drive family within the C1 series; the suffix 70 indicates the power rating (nominally ~7.0 kW continuous output). Compatible with Mitsubishi spindle motors of the SJ and HF series; can be integrated in multi-axis configurations with a common power supply unit MDS-C1-CV.

The MDS-C1-V1-70 spindle drive amplifier is the power and regulation unit that translates the MELDAS CNC speed commands into phase current on the spindle motor, keeping the speed loop stable under variable load. It is a critical process component: a failure causes immediate spindle shutdown and total loss of speed control, rendering the machine unusable for any machining operation.
